Georgetown Men’s Lacrosse Heads South Down 95 to face #2 Richmond
It doesn’t get much bigger than this, folks. You live for opportunities to beat the best. After dropping two games in a miniature sized indoor field against Notre Dame and a heartbreaking home opener loss against the Ohio State Buckeyes, your Georgetown Hoyas have a chance at redemption as they take on the Richmond Spiders in Richmond on Saturday.
For those newer to NCAA lacrosse, Richmond’s rise to the top is truly extraordinary. After dominating the MCLA (Club League) for many years, they finally made the move to Division 1 in 2014 (along with Boston University). Over the last 12 seasons, and under the leadership of head coach Dan Clinique, the Spiders have made the NCAA Tournament 6 times - in 2014, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2025. Last season was Chemotti’s best, as the team finished 14-4 and made it to the Quarterfinals for the 2nd time in program history. This season, however, the Spiders have officially arrived. They are currently 5-0 with wins over Virginia and an impressive come from behind win last week against Cornell.
On the other side of the field, the Hoyas have some work to do. Ohio State is a very good team and the Swamp Dawgs proved that they could go toe-to-toe with them. Some unforced turnovers and sloppy transition play, however, was the difference between being 2-1 and 1-2. They have been playing great defense led by veteran Goalie Anderson Moore. The Hoyas will need continued impact performances from the Connor brothers and freshman phenom #5 Jake Bickel to pull of the upset in the Commonwealth.
First face off drops at 12pm on Saturday. Streaming available on ESPN+
